In the same way as I used to wonder how I lived without a cell phone pre-2000 A.D., I now wonder how I survived without Tivo. I guess I basically just didn't get to watch what I wanted when I wanted and HOW I wanted (commercial free please). I mean if you don't HAVE to sit through commercials, why experience the sheer torture of it? I was checking my Season Passes tonight which haven't been changed in quite a long time. Here is what I found:
1. Commander in Chief - I LOVE this show. I have seen every episode. I am curious as to where the new episodes are. Anyone know? It did well at the Golden Globe as it should have.
2. American Idol - I am unashamedly addicted. Luckily a lot of people I know are also including my whole office. It makes it kind of fun.
3. Desperate Housewives - I am pretty sure I have seen every episode of this show. It's like the Dallas of this generation.
4. Arrested Development - I have A LOT of affection in my heart for this show. I started watching it about halfway through Season 1 and became instantly addicted. I have tried to show it to a couple of people but I don't think they found it as funny as I did. I think the writing is wonderful and the actors know just how to play every comical nuance. I was very sad when it was cancelled but was glad to know that it will live on (unfortunately on a channel that I don't get). I'll just buy the DVDs.
5. Joey - I KNOW it's not as funny as Friends, but I never expected it to be. That show was a giant that few will ever be able to compare. I tried to take the show for what it was and I enjoyed it. I hope they bring it back next season because it still has potential.
6. Scrubs - I remember watching the very first episode of this show. The first thing that I loved was the theme song. I still do. The next thing I loved was all the quirky comedy and fantasy clips. It's a great show. I don't love it as much as Arrested Development, but it's still one of the best comedies on TV. I enjoyed the episode tonight and the addition of a song by Kutless which was surprising and nice.
7. Committed - This is how outdated my Season Passes are. This show was cancelled quite a while ago. While the previews made the show look interesting, the reality was less than stellar. I watched the first episode, tried part of number two, then gave up. Soon after that, so did NBC.
8. The Office - Firt came the English Office, then came the American Office. Love it, love it, love it. At a dinner last summer in England, a girl there had just watched an episode of the American version. Her comment was that Americans just don't get the British sense of humor and that the American version didn't quite catch the humor of the original. At the time I didn't have a response, but now I would have a response. No, the humor isn't the SAME, but it's just as funny. An American office is different from a British office so therefore the humor needs to be different. If the writers used the same jokes it just wouldn't translate into our office situations. Bottom line, I can't get enough of this show.
9. My Name is Earl - I just started watching this show a few weeks ago. It's growing on me. I like it more and more with each episode. There is definitely nothing else on TV like it.
It probably looks like I sit around watching TV all the time, but I don't. That's what I like about Tivo. It records all these shows for me and then I just watch whenever I have a spare 20 minutes. It's really the perfect accessory for busy people. Tivo People - I would love to do a commercial for you guys to let the American public know that your product is a valuable investment. I could at least tell them that if they had Tivo they could skip over my mug if they wanted.
On a side note - Chris gets in tomorrow!! Yay!!
